natalie.mu: “Kyary performs Yasutaka-produced new songs, capsule covers at first one-man live”

Yesterday, February 25th, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu held her first one-man live “Moshimoshi QUATTRO” at Tokyo, Shibuya’s CLUB QUATTRO.
The first song - a proper one to commemorate her live - was the lead song “PONPONPON”, her debut song and also a track from her mini-album “Moshimoshi Harajuku”. Kyary, who was welcomed with a huge cheer, came out wearing the same poppy outfit she wore in the video clip for “PONPONPON” and with her dyed red hair tied up into pigtails.
During her first MC segment, she greeted the crowd: “Everyone, good evening once again! I’m Kyary Pamyu Pamyu!” She then added in, “Wow… how many of you are there!?” and “Isn’t it incredible for a one-man live just half a year since my debut!?”, showing wonder at her higher than expected success. Showered in the many cheers of the audience, she then commented about beginning her live: “I don’t have that many songs (laughs). There’s some songs that Mr. Nakata Yasutaka made, and I’ll be doing some covers, so please enjoy it until the end!”
The next thing she revealed was the song music producer Nakata Yasutaka wrote specifically for this one-man live, “Suki Sugite Kiresou” (I Love It So Much I’m About to Lose My Temper). Since the name of this song is a reference to a phrase that Kyary herself uses on her blog, when Kyary introduced the song title, the venue burst into laughter. She also sang a cover of capsule’s “jelly”, which was included on “Moshimoshi Harajuku”. The BPM is slightly slower than the original, and the arrangement - which is more moderate in its vocal effects - along with the Kyary-style choreography gave the song a whole new outlook.

Then, after her six dancers interposed with a dance break with the original remix of Nakata Yasutaka’s work playing in the back, a new part of her live began with “Kyary no March”. Kyary had changed into sweet-looking fairy kei style clothing, wearing a gigantic chiffon bow on her head, a lavender-colored blouse, and a pastel-colored mini-skirt. In this part, she performed the tracks “Pinpon ga Nannai” and “Choudo Ii no” included on “Moshimoshi Harajuku”.
After this the curtain came down on the stage once again, [directing the audience’s attention] to a video in the corner. The video playing there, a video of Kyary’s face, included an illustration collage. Then Kyary -who had changed clothes for the third time - appeared and began the last part of the live. To rouse up the crowd for her finale, she sang “Kyary ANAN” from her part-time news “an” commercial and “Tsukema Tsukeru”, her wildly popular first single. She lectured the audience on how to do the choreography for each song, creating a fun atmosphere where the audience could sing and dance along.

Before the encore began, in addition to secret footage from her first ever overseas live performance in Los Angeles, United States last December, it was also announced that she would be releasing her 2nd album [error, they mean single] “CANDY CANDY” on April 4th. Amid the rising cheers of her audience on the floor, Kyary appeared once again dressed in the outfit for the high tempo “CANDY CANDY”. “It’s set up like this so that I like an 80’s idol, or some fashionable and clumsy magical girl!” she explained of her eccentric style, [which consisted of] a sailor uniform-style pink sequined top and a skirt made out of polyurethane.
As the title suggests, “CANDY CANDY” is a girly song like “Tsukema Tsukeru” and “PONPONPON”. After performing her new song for the very first time, Kyary called out, “Let’s sing ‘PONPONPON’ with a jump at the end, everyone!”, then performed a high-energy “PONPONPON” for the second time. “Thank you, really, seriously, for today! It was so fun! See you!!!” she yelled, leaving the stage and wrapping up her first one-man live with thirteen songs.
